Interesting how things happen.
In 2003 I was reading reading Jack Canfield’s book “How to get from Here to Where You Want to Be”. In a chapter three quarters of the way through the book there is a question: ” If you could do anything and you didn’t have to worry about the bills or anything else, what would it be?” My brain answered the question instantly. Plain and simple, I would write. Everyone should have a dream like that. Later that same week my friends’ held a Dream Circle. I attended.
Before I continue, let me explain. Marcia Wieder-Dream University developed a program where attendees would sit in a circle and take turns sharing their dream with other participants. The big difference here over just sharing what your dreams are, is that after the participant shares what their dream is,the other attendees ask for three commitments that person is willing to make to pursue their passion. Those didn’t have to be giant steps. They do need to move you in the direction of fulfilling the dream. My three commitments at the time were: 1) take my pc (which had developed a fatal error) to be repaired. Sorry to say it had actually died. Happy to say stories I had written (and had no hard copies of) were retrievable. 2) make business cards (easy, I had a laptop with publisher on it). 3) look into attending the Maui Writers’ Conference(My niece lived there at the time). Still, everything taken into consideration, I resisted the push to follow through on “writing a book”. It is a huge undertaking.
Now I am closer than I really believed at the time. What an incredible journey.
