Noon today is the opening to register for the Surrey International Writers Conference in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, www.siwc.ca. Registration for the full conference includes a choice for a pitch and a blue pencil.
The pitch, as aspiring authors know, is heart wrenching. This is a chance to sit in front of and talk to an agent. It is important to select the right agent. Agents represent different genres. I don’t want to pitch to an agent that is not interested in my genre. That of course would be a waste of both our time. Most important is to find an agent that will hear something in your pitch that will inspire them to ask for more.
The blue pencil is perhaps, at least for me, is the more scary opportunity. The thought of hearing what a published author has to say about three pages of your manuscript (your baby) can hold a special terror. Now matter how kind this person might be, what if they find no value in my writing. What if is a heart stopping question here.
Good, bad or indifferent, the choice must be made on my lunch break today. I hope you wish me luck.
